A COMPREHENSIVE VIEW OF MICROBIAL COMMUNITIES IN THE LAUNDERING CYCLE SUGGESTS A PREVENTIVE EFFECT OF SOIL BACTERIA ON MALODOUR FORMATION

ABSTRACT

Understanding the microbial composition in washing machines and on used textiles is crucial for preventing unpleasant odors. To delve deeper into this topic, Dr. Marc-Kevin Zinn conducted a comprehensive study involving 359 households, examining their washing habits, detergent choices, and experiences with laundry malodors.

Informal Microenterprises in Developing Countries: Can They Grow?

Informal microenterprises play a significant role in developing countries, employing over 90% of the workforce in Sub-Saharan Africa. But are they really unproductive as commonly believed?

In our latest video, we explore the critical questions: How can these growth-oriented microenterprises be identified, and what characteristics make them stand out?

This knowledge is invaluable for entrepreneurs looking to invest in growth factors and policymakers aiming to support these enterprises. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to gain insights that can drive economic development.

PROJECT

DISCOVERING ITS TRANSITION FROM SUBSISTENCE USE TO GLOBAL MARKETS

ABSTRACT

The research aimed to shed light on how Baobab managed to transition from sole subsistence use to an ingredient in (international) markets.

Why Baobab? Baobabs have a rich history deeply intertwined with the lives of people in sub-Sahara Africa. The nutritious fruit of the Baobab tree has been a vital source of sustenance for generations, yet its potential is not fully exploited yet. Compared to domesticated crops, baobab may well be better adapted to climate change and provide important income opportunities even when other crops fail. Exploring how wild, underutilized food resources like Baobab can be sustainably commercialised can contribute to making our food systems more sustainable.
