Conference participation of young scientist, member of the Research Centre.
Jannis Menne, a young early-career researcher, shared his experience attending the first “Artificial Intelligence for Animal Science” (AI4AS) Conference, which took place from June 4 to 6, 2025, at ETH Zurich and was organized by EAAP. He explained that the event focused on the use of artificial intelligence in livestock systems and featured insightful contributions from both academic and industry perspectives.
Menne reported that he had the honor of presenting his poster entitled “AI-Driven Approaches for Animal Welfare Monitoring in Agroforestry Systems.” He described the presentation as a highly rewarding experience that led to stimulating discussions, encouraging feedback, and fresh ideas for his current research.
He emphasized that the conference offered valuable insights into the state of AI-based applications in animal farming — including topics such as welfare monitoring, health diagnostics, and decision support tools. What struck him most was the interdisciplinary exchange between professionals from research and industry who are collectively driving innovation in the field of animal sciences.
He said he returned from the conference with new ideas, renewed motivation, and promising professional connections, which he looked forward to developing in the weeks and months ahead.
Menne expressed his sincere gratitude to the Research Centre “Sustainable Food Systems” at the University of Applied Sciences Rhein-Waal for enabling his participation, and to the TransRegINT project for supporting his work. He also thanked the EAAP organisers for what he called a well-organized and inspiring event, and said he was already looking forward to a possible continuation next year.
