The ground beneath our feet: A visit to orchard meadows 🌳🍎🌸

πŸ—“ Date: 24.05.2025
⏱ Time: 11:00 Uhr – 16:00 Uhr
πŸ“ Location: Hochstraße 40, 47546 Neulouisendorf

Orchard meadows – traditional agroforestry systems – characterise the landscape of the Lower Rhine and grow on diverse soils. But how did they come about, what do they do and how can we protect them?

In the soil course with Florian Wichern (Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences) and Stefanie Heinze (Ruhr University Bochum), we will analyse the soil of a meadow orchard and a spruce plantation in a practical way. With soil samples, texture analysis and pH value determination, we will get to know the soil ecosystem better – with lots of practice and β€˜soil under the nails’.
